Archbishop Chaput’s Column: Why House Bill 800 Matters

In his most recent column Archbishop Chaput writes, “The point is this: Proper funding for public schools is clearly important. But experience has already shown that this can’t be the only strategy because it doesn’t work for many of the students who most urgently need a good education. It’s therefore vital that our elected officials serve the education needs of the poor by also supporting school choice.

In recent years, thanks in large measure to bipartisan efforts spearheaded by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai, the Commonwealth’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs have made tens of millions of dollars available for school choice in education.  These special programs account for barely half of 1 percent of Pennsylvania’s total state and local spending on public education, but they’ve made a massive difference in the lives of tens of thousands of families.”

A Personal Note from Tim Wildmon - AFA President

AFA endorses pro-life movie “Unplanned”

Unplanned is the inspiring true story of one woman’s journey of transformation. AFA has screened Unplanned and strongly encourages you to go see this movie. You can watch the preview here.

All Abby Johnson ever wanted to do was help women. As one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation, she was involved in upwards of 22,000 abortions and counseled countless women about their reproductive choices. Her passion surrounding a woman’s right to choose even led her to become a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, fighting to enact legislation for the cause she so deeply believed in.

Until the day she saw something that changed everything, a baby fighting for its life. This led Abby Johnson to join her former enemies at 40 Days For Life and become one of the most ardent pro-life speakers in America.

Read AFA’s powerful review of Unplanned, written by AFA Journal’s Anne Reed. Anne’s article appears in AFA’s online blog, The Stand.

It is one of the most powerful films I’ve ever seen and especially having to do with the pro-life issue. Abby was a woman who was deeply involved in Planned Parenthood until God showed her the truth about this evil organization. She left Planned Parenthood and now speaks out on behalf of life. It’s a great story that I’m glad to recommend to you.

Unplanned opens in theaters everywhere March 29.

To be shown at: AMC theatre at Neshaminy Mall on March 29, 2019.

To find a theater near you or to learn more, visit www.unplannedtickets.com. Because of the content and nature of the abortion industry, the MPAA has rated this move “R” and is not suitable for younger viewers. Scenes that expose the truth about abortion are difficult to watch, both the procedure itself and the bloody “normal recovery” for a woman who uses the RU486 abortion pill. Parents are advised to see it first and consider watching and discussing it with older children.

Thank you,

Tim Wildmon, President

Born-Alive Legislation Deserves a Vote in the People’s House

Defenders of abortion will not bring the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act to a vote in the US House of Representatives. This is deeply unfair.

There is one way to break the blockade.

We need your help to urge your Representative to sign a petition, beginning on April 2nd, that would allow this vote to occur.

We are saddened and shocked by state legislatures proposing and even passing laws to expand abortion AND to repeal laws providing specific protections for babies who live through an attempted abortion.

The Born-Alive Act would provide specific protections nationwide to help prevent newborns from being killed or left alone to die.

The Senate failed to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, but that is not the end of the story. This bill, rooted in our most fundamental human values, is worth fighting for.

Babies who survive abortion must no longer be killed or left to die. Help us push Congress to take a vote on and pass the Born-Alive Act.

Archbishop Chaput’s Column: See This Movie. It Matters

In his most recent column Archbishop Chaput writes, “As director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas, and committed to the ideals of reproductive choice and a woman’s “right to choose,” [Abby] Johnson oversaw a site that conducted thousands of abortions during her tenure.  It was only when she took part personally in one of the procedures that the reality of killing a living, developing, unborn human child imprinted itself on her conscience full force.  She left Planned Parenthood and joined the Coalition for Life.

Johnson’s journey from one side of the abortion struggle to the other is told powerfully in her compelling book Unplanned, available from Ignatius Press (https://www.ignatius.com/Unplanned-P2528.aspx) and other booksellers.  It’s well worth reading and sharing.  And her story is now an equally powerful motion picture, Unplanned, opening in theaters around the metro Philadelphia area on March 29.  Don’t expect to see positive reviews in mainstream media outlets; miracles do happen, but this one would be a stretch.  Ignore that.  See this movie, and bring as many friends and acquaintances with you as you can (it’s rated R for the nature of its content).  It’s that important.”
