STATEMENT OF ARCHBISHOP CHARLES J. CHAPUT, O.F.M. CAP.

STATEMENT OF ARCHBISHOP CHARLES J. CHAPUT, O.F.M. CAP.

REGARDING RACIAL VIOLENCE IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA

Racism is a poison of the soul. It’s the ugly, original sin of our country, an illness that has never fully healed. Blending it with the Nazi salute, the relic of a regime that murdered millions, compounds the obscenity. Thus the wave of public anger about white nationalist events in Charlottesville this weekend is well warranted. We especially need to pray for those injured in the violence.

But we need more than pious public statements. If our anger today is just another mental virus displaced tomorrow by the next distraction or outrage we find in the media, nothing will change. Charlottesville matters. It’s a snapshot of our public unraveling into real hatreds brutally expressed; a collapse of restraint and mutual respect now taking place across the country. We need to keep the images of Charlottesville alive in our memories. If we want a different kind of country in the future, we need to start today with a conversion in our own hearts, and an insistence on the same in others. That may sound simple. But the history of our nation and its tortured attitudes toward race proves exactly the opposite.

Your Help Still Needed to Enact Conscience Protection Act of 2017

Dear Friend,
August presents us with a great pro-life advocacy opportunity! Congress has left Washington, D.C. for the August recess. Now is the moment for pro-life citizen-advocates to connect with our members in their district offices and to re-energize our efforts to urge Congress to pass the Conscience Protection Act of 2017, (CPA).
Please take a moment to remind your members that this much-needed, common-sense legislation will clarify federal law and ensure that those who provide health care and health coverage can continue to do so without being forced by government to help destroy innocent unborn children.

There are several ways to make your voice heard. First, a quick click  will send an email or tweet to your members. Second, please take a moment during August to call or meet with your representative and two senators to let them know we expect them to protect our most cherished liberties by supporting the CPA. A suggested phone or meeting script can be found by clicking on the phone icon on the action alert. Here’s a picture of what it looks like:

Also, you can learn your members’ district office phone number by looking it up here. This is also where you will find staff and contact information for the district office. Armed with that information it is easy to call and request an appointment with the district staff member responsible for health care issues.

August is often also “Town Hall Meeting Season” in many districts. Be sure and attend, and advocate for the CPA if your member is hosting an open forum! Remember, fuller background information on this legislation is available in the legislative reports  section of HumanLifeAction.org, which includes several fact sheets lke the one attached.
Together we will be heard!
Amy McInerny
Executive Director

P.S. If you use social media, you can help spread this call to action on Facebook,Twitter and Instagram. We can be found on all three platforms @HumanLifeAction. It’s as easy as sharing our posts to your page.

A Message from the Philadelphia Catholic Grandparents Association Conference

Greetings!

We, at the Catholic Grandparents Association have some exciting news but we
need your help to make it happen.

The Catholic Grandparents Association (CGA)  is a 401 C3, Private
Association of the Faithful with statutes and guidelines written with the
assistance of a Vatican Attorney. Our “Prayer for Grandparents”, written for
us by Pope Benedict XVI, beautifully expresses our Mission to pass on our
faith and keep prayer at the heart of family life.

In our efforts to reach Grandparents and to support them in their vocation,
we are having our first US conference for Grandparents in Philadelphia on
August 26 at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.  We are working with the
Diocese of Philadelphia and a wonderful group of volunteers to make this day
a success.

Attached is our flyer with details of the conference. Please share the flyer
with your parish and with anyone you think would benefit or be interested in
the Mission of the CGA and in being part of this special day for
Grandparents.  Please visit our website
www.catholicgrandparentsassociation.org to learn more about the CGA and our
Ministry and Mission worldwide.

Please contact me for more information or if you have any questions.

May the blessings of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, Grandparents of Jesus, be
with you and your family today and always.

God Bless,

Marilyn Henry
