Introducing the Religious Sign App for Families from the Deaf Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia

I write this afternoon on behalf of Sister Kathleen Schipani, IHM, Director of the Archdiocesan Office for Persons with Disabilities and the Deaf Apostolate to introduce the Religious Sign App for Families, which is available in both Apple and Android Platforms. The Deaf Apostolate has produced an app that is available in both Apple and Android platforms. Additional information can be found below.

The Religious Sign App for Families

An innovative App has been produced by the Deaf Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is a fun way to learn signs for religious words and to teach young children how to pray in American Sign Language. This App can be used by Deaf and hearing as a way to encourage families to pray together in American Sign Language. It can be used in classrooms for Religious Education and in Catholic Schools. Click here to purchase in the App Store.

All of the adult models are Deaf and all the children are Deaf or Children of Deaf Adults (CODAs) from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. This is a great way to have the whole family learn to pray in ASL. The App is captioned and voiced in English and Spanish. To learn more about the App go to www.ReligiousSignApp.org

The App was presented to a conference at the Vatican just a few weeks ago and has been featured in a number of news articles. A sampling of links to coverage in the press can be found below.

Sincerely in Christ,

Call to Action: Urge Congress to Enact the Conscience Protection Act of 2017

Dear Friend,

Your help is needed to defend life and liberty of conscience. I write once again to ask your help in advocating for the Conscience Protection Act of 2017. Now is the time to raise our voices in defense of those health care professionals who choose not to participate in abortion. Even if you have sent a message to your members of Congress in the past, please take action again today. This has been a long effort, but we are closer than ever to reaching our goal of making the common-sense protections of the Weldon Amendment part of permanent law. We are grateful that you continue to stand with us as we strive to protect every life and freedom of conscience in federal law. Further information about the legislation is availablehere.

Today we renew our call to action to urge Congress to pass the CPA as part of must-pass appropriations legislation. Yesterday morning, a press conference was held at the Capitol to introduce America to three nurses whose freedom of conscience was violated because they chose not to participate in abortion. Human Life Action was there and recorded the event for you. Click the photo below to hear the stories of Sandra Mendoza, Cathy DeCarlo and Fe Vinoya.

Cardinal Dolan and many national and community leaders have called on the Senate and the House of Representatives to enact the Conscience Protection Act of 2017 (CPA). Now is the time to add our voices to theirs.

Please take action today. Together we will be heard!

Send a ‘thank you’ to your local lawmaker for voting ‘yes’ to EITC

Your emails and advocacy worked! The School Code bill that is part of the 2017-18 state budget is now law.

Please send a ‘thank you’ to your local lawmaker in the House and\or Senate for making this important vote.

As a reminder, the bill provides for a $10 million increase for the expansion of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. This vital program allows for more scholarships for students to attend the school that is best for them.

If you are receiving this message, your legislator voted “yes” to the increase. Please send a message thanking them for voting in favor of this bill.

SCANDAL: Nudism on Mall continues

Good news: The Park Service denied a permit to the “Catharsis on the Mall” event to place a 45-foot naked female statue called “R-Evolution” on the National Mall, in Washington DC.

Bad news: The same event now seeks to install a large structure that would display a 26-foot composite digital photo of a naked woman, front and back. A permit application is under review at this very moment.

The two-story structure would display the nude female image on two sides of a scaffold-screen during the three-day event Nov. 10-12. Plus, media reports say women at the festival can take nude photos of themselves inside a booth that would then be worked into the composite digital photo shown on this giant screen.

Please sign the petition to the Park Service, urging them to deny these nude displays on the Mall

Finally, the event organizers have NOT given up on placing the giant 45-foot “R-Evolution” nude female statue on the Mall.

They are pushing to get it on public display by January 21, 2018, the first anniversary of the Woman’s March, which is just 2 days after the annual March for LifeThis means that if the permit is granted, a giant female statue may be on display as hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers gather in Washington DC on January 19th .

This would be awful! Countless families would be exposed to the immorality that these activists are trying to impose on society.

We must legally and peacefully reject nudism!

Sign our petition, urging the National Park Service in DC to deny permits for the nude display and the “R-Evolution” statue

Tax-Saving Education Program Expanded to Help an Additional 3,000 Families

Good news from Harrisburg! State lawmakers have approved an expansion of a successful education program that is expected to help more than 3,000 additional families find the best education for their children, while saving taxpayers money.

Description: Image removed by sender. EITC program expansionEach year, the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program helps over 40,000 families with scholarship assistance that permits parents to send their children to the school that best meets their needs.

The PA General Assembly, as part of the state budget package, passed a $10 million expansion of the successfully-proven EITC program (8% increase), which is estimated to serve 3,200 additional families. Governor Wolf recently announced he will allow this expansion to become law (without his signature).

Pennsylvania Family Institute is one of the 196 approved organizations that distribute scholarships through the EITC program, providing 4,000 scholarships to Pennsylvania families. And every year we hear from parents their appreciation for this program and how their child’s education would not be possible without the financial scholarship. It’s a great program and great to see it will help more families in Pennsylvania.

Thanks for your partnership with us in our scholarship program and in advocating for school choice options in Pennsylvania.

And remember – it’s Election Day tomorrow (Tuesday, November 7th). We have our Voter’s Guide up for you to read through and share with friends and family: PaFamilyVoter.com.

Archbishop Chaput’s Op-Ed: Advocacy and Accuracy

Recently, I shared correspondence from the Archdiocesan Director of Communications regarding imbalanced news coverage in The Philadelphia Inquirer relative to the sexual abuse of children and the many positive steps taken by the Church over the past 15 years to ensure that the young people entrusted to her care experience the safest environment possible.

Today, I am sharing an Op-Ed written by Archbishop Chaput that addresses this same topic. It is being published this afternoon on Philly.com, the official website of The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia Daily News, as well as CatholicPhilly.com, the official digital news agency of the Archdiocese. It is expected that the full text will appear in print in this Sunday’s edition of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
