New Auxiliary Bishops for Philadelphia

Pope Francis names three new Auxiliary Bishops to serve the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Earlier this morning, a wonderful announcement came from Rome regarding the life of our local Church. Pope Francis has named Reverend Keith J. Chylinski, Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary; Reverend Christopher R. Cooke, Dean of Men in the School of Theology at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary; and Reverend Efren V. Esmilla, Pastor of Saint James and Saint Martin of Tours Parishes; as Auxiliary Bishops to serve the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and her people.

Archbishop Pérez will hold a news conference at 10:45 a.m. at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center to introduce the new bishops-elect. It will be streamed live on the Archbishop’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ArchbishopPerez).

Following the news conference, the Archbishop will concelebrate Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the bishops-elect at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. The Mass will also be streamed live on the Archbishop’s Facebook page.

Please join in extending hearty congratulations to our new auxiliary bishops and in praying that the Holy Spirit will strengthen them as they prepare to take on this new role in service to the Church.

Archbishop Pérez’s Hanukkah Message to Jewish Community

Archbishop Pérez Sends Letter to Jewish Community on the Occasion of Hanukkah

Dear Friends in the Jewish Faith Tradition,

Together with the people of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, I write to extend prayerful best wishes as you celebrate the Festival of Lights in all of its beauty. In this time of great uncertainty throughout the world, the Hanukkah menorah reminds us of the enduring triumph of light over darkness and provides enduring hope for humanity.

As you recall the glory of the Temple’s re-dedication by Judas Maccabeus centuries ago, may the glow of the menorah fill you with happiness as you strengthen the bonds of faith, family, and friends.

Chag Urim Sameach!

Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D.
Archbishop of Philadelphia
