Correction – Sacramental Parent Meetings

Our recent Parish bulletins inadvertently gave incorrect dates for the upcoming Sacramental Parent Meetings.  Please note that the correct dates are as follows:

A mandatory Confirmation Parent Meeting will be held in the church on Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00 PM.

A mandatory First Communion Parent Meeting will be held in the church on Thursday, November 29th at 7:00 PM.

If you have any questions, please call Audrey Wilson at the Rectory 215-946-4040.  We apologize for any confusion.  Thank you.

Hurricane Sandy Update

The recent storm which devastated many parts of the Carribean, Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States, certainly left its mark on St. Frances Cabrini Parish and its neighbors.  Many of our parishioners were without electricity for days and some sections of Levittown felt the severe power of the storm as wind knocked down trees, some of which landed on homes and cars, resulting in extensive damage.  Fences were blown down and houses lost roof shingles and siding.

The Parish campus was no exception.  As most parishioners are aware, the entire campus was without power for several days.  Partial power was restored on Wednesday evening, but with only one of the three electrical phases restored, the church was without full lighting and heat for the Masses on Thursday, the Feast of All Saints, as well as all the weekend Masses.  Full power was finally restored late Sunday morning.    In addition to the loss of electrical power, the heavy winds damaged some roof shingles and aluminum capping on the church, rectory garage and Monsignor Woods Hall buildings.  The insurance adjustor has been working to assess the cost of necessary repairs and temporary measures have been taken to ensure that no further damage is done.

We continue to pray for the many people who were affected by the storm, many of whom sustained extensive damage to property or lost their homes completely, as well as those who continue to be without power.

MOVIE NIGHT – OCTOBER BABY – FRIDAY, 11/16

Our next Movie Night is scheduled for Friday evening, November 16th.  We will be showing the film October Baby, which is rated PG-13.   Doors open at 7:00 PM and the movie will begin at 7:30 PM.  Free popcorn and refreshments.

October Baby is a film with a message of forgiveness and healing, as well as the value of every life. October Baby is the story of Hannah, who at the start of the movie collapses and is rushed to the hospital.  After numerous medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor:  Hannah’s difficult birth.  She then learns from her parents that she was actually adopted …after a failed abortion attempt.  Hannah is bewildered, angry and confused and turns to her friend, Jason, for support.  Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, “embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past…and find hope for her unknown future.”  During this incredible journey, “Hannah finds that life can be so much more than what you have planned.”

TRUNK OR TREAT WAS FUN FOR ALL!

TRUNK OR TREAT was a huge success!  Many families attended  and everyone had a great time.  The kids were able to Trunk or Treat in the parking lot and then move indoors for games and crafts.  The Lotito family provided hot chocolate, hot cider and delicious cupcakes, as well as music for dancing and enjoying the celebration!~  There were decorated cars, great costumes and we even had a visit from the Stay Puft Marshamallow Man!  See our Facebook album for more pictures!  Congratulations to the McGurrin family who won first prize in the decorating contest!  And, the Lotitos who came in second place!  Thank you to all who participated…can’t wait until next year!  If your child’s sat to have their picture taken, please contact Audrey Wilson to request a copy of the picture.  She can be reached at 215-946-4040 or prep@saintfrancescabrini.net.

ELECTION DAY 2013

Tuesday, November 6th, is Election Day.  As American citizens, we have the privilege of participating in the election process.  We appreciate the fact that we have the freedom to express our views.  And, as Catholics, we have a responsibility to vote our conscience.  So, be aware of the issues and where the candidates in this election stand on those issues.  Most importantly, be sure to go to the polls on Tuesday and vote!  It is our right and our responsibility!

MANDATORY SACRAMENT MEETING FOR PARENTS

A reminder that this Thursday, November 8th, there is a mandatory General Sacramental Parent Meeting at 7:00 PM in the church.  This meeting is mandatory for all parents who have a child(ren) receiving a sacrament this year.  If both parents are unable to attend, one parent is fine.  However, attendance is required by at least one parent in order for a child to continue preparation for a sacrament.

Children’s Mass

This Sunday, November 11th,  we extend a special invitation to all our families to attend the 9:00 AM Mass as Monsignor McCormac will direct his homily specifically to the children.  Last month, those children who attended this Mass really enjoyed the interaction with Monsignor regarding the Scripture readings.  We encourage you to attend and sit up front with your family so Monsignor can interact with the children through the homily, thus bringing the gospel to life in their lives as well as ours as adults.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Feast of All Saints, November 1st

Power was restored to the church and the rectory late Wednesday evening.
