Just-announced legislation would help save lives in PA

“Around 180 babies are born with Down syndrome in Pennsylvania every year, according to the State Department of Health. And studies show that as many as 9 out of 10 children diagnosed in utero with Down syndrome are aborted. That’s just one example of the cost of abortion on Pennsylvania. And it’s something we can change.”

What is the cost of abortion?

We alerted you this week about the U.S. Senate voting to end late-term abortion (which unfortunately fell short of the 60% majority need to overcome a filibuster on the bill; both U.S. Senators from Pennsylvania – Bob Casey and Pat Toomey – voted yes).

What’s alarming is the Congressional Budget Office in response to this federal bill actually put a price on a person’s life – claiming we would “save” around $7,000 for every child aborted at 21 weeks or later.

That is a dangerous proposition – one with devastating consequences. If this becomes our mentality – “saving money” over saving lives – where will it end?

For instance, what about an unborn child diagnosed with Down syndrome? Should they be eradicated from society simply because of this diagnosis?

The sad truth is that here in Pennsylvania, a baby can be aborted simply because of a diagnosis of Down syndrome. Having developmental delays – being “different” – should be no reason to abort an unborn child. Yet here in Pennsylvania, that is permitted by law.

Whether it be a lack of understanding about people with Down syndrome or a worldview that pressures abortion as a “solution” or perhaps lawmakers with faulty logic on putting a dollar-value on a person’s life, the majority of babies given a diagnosis of Down syndrome are aborted.

Thankfully, some state lawmakers are trying to change this here in Pennsylvania. New legislation has just been announced that would stop any child from being aborted solely due to a diagnosis of possible Down syndrome.

Please take a moment to contact your State Senator and State Representative and ask them to co-sponsor this legislation. We have set up an action alert to automatically identify your state officials and to email them this request. Just click here or go to tinyurl.com/ValueAll.

Thank you for continuing to stand with us and with those who cannot speak for themselves. May we continue to advocate truth and to save more lives here in Pennsylvania.

Support Unborn Children with Down Syndrome

As many as 90 percent of unborn children diagnosed in utero with Down Syndrome in the United States are aborted, according to the findings of some studies. Legislation that will be introduced into the Pennsylvania House of Representatives would enact a ban on aborting an unborn child as a result of a Down Syndrome diagnosis. It is imperative to protect the sanctity of life at every stage, and this bill would protect Down Syndrome children in the womb. At this time, the lawmakers introducing the bill are requesting fellow state representatives to support this bill. Tell your state representative to support this bill by sending them a message today!

ACTION ALERT: Urge Congress to Enact Pro-Life Legislation

Call to Action
We have great news! This Friday, January 19, the U.S. House of Representatives has scheduled a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. And the Senate is working to schedule a vote soon on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which passed the House last October. The House vote is timed to coincide with the annual March for Life in Washington, DC, which is scheduled for this Friday, January 19. There is hope that the Senate vote will be scheduled this week or next, but that has not yet been determined.   Please take a minute to contact your Senators and Representative. All the information you need and links to send your message up to Congress are provided here.

Will you be in Washington, DC, for the March for Life? If so, please consider visiting the offices of your Representative and Senators. Ask them how they voted, or intend to vote, on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Also, urge them to support the Conscience Protection Act. More information about the Conscience Protection Act is available here.  As always, your support is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Brian —– Brian Duggan Executive Director  bduggan@nchla.org 240-478-0794 mobile

From the White House

Will you add your name?

Fellow American,

I’m asking you to follow President Trump’s lead.

The White House issued a statement in support of a House bill that would make it illegal for any person to perform, or attempt to perform, an abortion of an unborn child after 5 months.

Now that the House did its job and passed this bill, it’s time for the Senate to ACT.

Please add your name in support of the White House statement and pressure pro-abortion obstructionists in the Senate to pass the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.”

ADD YOUR NAME

I can’t even imagine how anyone could think it’s okay to abort an unborn child after 5 months of pregnancy. This bill should be common sense.

But as we’ve seen time and time again, some elected officials routinely choose to stand with the abortion lobby, rather than their constituents – everyday Americans who are horrified by the thought of late-term abortion after five months.

Results only happen if we demand them.

So please, add your name in support of the White House statement and pressure pro-abortion obstructionists in the Senate to pass the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.”

For LIFE,

Marjorie Dannenfelser President, Susan B. Anthony List
