Archives for June 2015

pope

Today, the Vatican released the comprehensive itinerary for Pope Francis’ journey to the United States, including his schedule for Philadelphia on September 26-27 which will close the 6-day Apostolic Journey.

Confirmed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015, Pope Francis will take part in eight public (8) events in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.

Statement from Archbishop Chaput

“Pope Francis’ plans for his visit to Philadelphia seamlessly integrate powerful public moments with more intimate gatherings that are deeply grace filled,” said Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M., Cap.   “It is an itinerary that says, ‘I walk with you – and so does the Lord.’  It says, ‘Embrace your faith and embrace one another as children of God.’  It says, ‘God forgives.’ And it says ‘Come together in celebration.’ The Holy Father’s planned itinerary is a true gift to all of us in the Philadelphia regardless of faith tradition.  I am confident we will leave a positive and lasting impression upon Pope Francis.”

As you may already know, our parishioners Manilyn Lalo and Victor Sorace are part of the Diocesean Children’s Choir of Philadelphia.  On Monday evening, they had the honor of singing at Carnegie Hall for the Inaugural Concert of the Center for Music and Liturgy!  We are always proud and constantly amazed at the musical accomplishments of these young parishioners.

Send a Message of Support for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act!

Dear Friend,

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (S. 1553) was introduced in the Senate on June 11 by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). The identical bill passed the House of Representatives on May 13, 2015, by a vote of 242 to 184.  Urge your Senators to support and co-sponsor this bill.

Please click here to send a message of support!

There is substantial medical evidence that an unborn child is capable of experiencing pain at least by 20 weeks after fertilization. As proposed, S. 1553 asserts a compelling governmental interest in protecting unborn children at least by this stage. With limited exceptions, the bill makes it unlawful to perform or attempt to perform an abortion if the probable post-fertilization age of the unborn child is 20 weeks or greater.

Thanks for all that you do in support of life! Together we will be heard.

Planned Parenthood Tells Us We’re Getting Closer to Defunding Their Enterprise

Planned Parenthood Tells Us We’re Getting Closer to Defunding Their Enterprise

No More Taxdollars to Planned Parenthood

Ending government payments to Planned Parenthood (the largest abortion provider in Pennsylvania; receiving over $7 million from government grants in 2013) is the concluding action item from our 2015 State of Abortion report (click here to download for free or go to AbortionisPersonal.org).

Defunding this abortion business is getting closer to reality, as seen by Planned Parenthood’s own concern in recent ads, which begin with:

“As you read this, an attempt is underway by fringe politicians in Harrisburg to defund Planned Parenthood…in the state budget.”

Our pro-life efforts are working!!! Please make sure to ask your legislators to stop paying Planned Parenthood; especially now during budget season.  And please read more about this and share with others.

Please join in urging Congress to support our cherished rights of conscience and religious liberty. Policy is being considered right now on Capitol Hill that can protect the freedom of all Americans.  Please take action today!

Now is the time to urge Congress to work to enact critically important conscience protections this year. Such protections will likely be included in a soon-to-be-introduced appropriations bill, but House members should be urged to ensure that it remains a high priority and goes into law.  Senators should also be called upon to help ensure passage of these needed protections. Please take action today to contact Congress.

The need for legislation protecting the rights of conscience and religious liberty has grown more pressing. The Obama Administration’s contraceptive/abortifacient mandate under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) began to be enforced against religious nonprofit schools, charities and health care providers on January 1, 2014. More recently the state of California started forcing all health insurers in the state to include elective abortions in the health plans they sell. These two problems are addressed by the Health Care Conscience Rights Act (H.R. 940). It would add a long-overdue conscience clause to the ACA, and strengthen the Weldon amendment that forbids governmental bodies which receive federal Health and Human Services funds from discriminating against those who decline to take part in abortion or abortion coverage. Congress should work to enact the policy of H.R. 940 this year.

Thank you for once again raising your voice in defense of life and liberty. Together we will be heard!
