BEWARE: “NOAH” MOVIE NOT TRUE TO BIBLE

noah“Noah,” a new movie scheduled to be released in the U.S. on March 28, has been surrounded by controversy over the twisting of the biblical story of Noah.

Decide for yourself, but we encourage you to do some research before heading to the theatre.

A recent article written by Joe Schimmel on the website Goodfight Ministries states,

“Christians are being herded like lost sheep to see a movie which does not reflect its biblical billing. Many, after viewing Paramount’s misleading trailer and reading their bogus claim that the movie “is inspired by the story of Noah” and “is true to the essence, values, and integrity of a story that is a cornerstone of faith for millions of people worldwide,” (Source) are in for a very rude awakening!”

“The truth is, reviews of screenings of the movie Noah reveal that it is an utter corruption of the Word of God and actually turns the bible inside out. It is especially telling that Paramount ended up in a huge conundrum after press reviews of the initial screenings found that many Christians were upset because the Noah film was not true to the biblical narrative. This should not be a great surprise, as Noah director Darren Aronofsky, promotes Antichrist, occult and Gnostic elements by the boat load in his other movies. Add to this the fact that Aronofsky approaches the Noah story as a “great fable,” and has no reason to approach the sacred story with any sense of sanctity or reverence for God.”

AUDREY WILSON RETURNS

We are pleased to let you know that Audrey Wilson will soon be returning to St. Frances Cabrini. Audrey will rejoin us on Monday, March 31st.

Audrey will be returning to the position of Director of Parish Services, however, this position will no longer include the responsibility for the PREP and Sacramental Programs. After many years of including these responsibilities within the position of Director of Parish Services, prior to my conversations with Audrey, it was discerned to carve these programs out of the position of Director of Parish Services so as to free up the Director of Parish Services for other ministries/aspects of Parish life.

Therefore, we are happy to report that Tricia Madden will continue to be the Coordinator of Religious Education, overseeing the PREP and the Sacramental Programs.

Please remember Audrey in your prayers as she transitions from the Diocese of Saginaw to St. Frances.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PENNSYVANIA CATHOLIC CONFERENCE

A Message from the PA Catholic Conference:

Adoption is a loving and life-affirming choice, and each adoption decision is unique and different.

Some birth parents may choose an open adoption, wherein adoptees and birth parents can communicate if both sides agree.  But some women in crisis pregnancies choose to carry the baby to term with the understanding that their identity will remain private. For example, rape victims have been guaranteed anonymity in the adoption process in the past. This simple fact helped countless women choose life. If you know someone facing an adoption decision, visit www.adoptionpa.org.

House Bill 162 would require the Pennsylvania Department of Health to provide a summary of an adoptee’s birth record without the consent of the birth parents. The law already allows an adoptee to obtain medical records, but HB 162 would release the names of birth parents, even if there had been a promise of anonymity provided long ago.

The PCC cannot support HB 162 because it imposes a unilateral approach to identifying information for adoptees without respect for the concerns of others involved. Send a message today to your state Senator: urge him or her to oppose legislation like HB 162 that does not respect all parties involved in adoptions.

DATE CORRECTION – TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE

We inadvertently listed the incorrect date for this week’s prayer service.  The Taize Prayer Around the Cross will be held on Thursday, MARCH 13TH at 8:00 PM.  Please adjust your calendar accordingly.

TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE ON MARCH 20TH

Join us for a Taize Prayer Service on Thursday evening, March 20th at 8:00 PM.

Taizé Prayer is an hour-long meditative candle-lit service that centers around music, prayer, and silence, to quiet the mind, open the heart and feed the soul… time of quiet and solitude in the presence of God. A few words sung over and over again reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can be grasped quickly by the heart and intellect, gradually penetrating the whole being.

ASH WEDNESDAY MASS SCHEDULE

Masses on Ash Wednesday, March 5, will be celebrated at 9:30 AM and 7:00 PM.
