COVID-19 has contributed to the permanent closure of 130 Catholic schools across 23 states. Additionally, internal surveys show ten percent of Catholic schools are now uncertain if they can open their doors this fall. That means as many as 500 or more Catholic schools could be in jeopardy.
Please join the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in asking Congress to include additional relief for Catholic schools in the next emergency relief package.

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States issued its decision in the case of Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue, which challenged a decision by the Montana Supreme Court to invalidate a tax credit scholarship program because families benefiting include those who choose to send their children to religiously-affiliated schools, a violation of the Montana state constitution’s “Blaine Amendment” of 1889 against aid to religious schools. By vote of 5-4, the Court ruled in favor of the petitioners. Click here to read the full statement.

Archbishop Pérez was recently invited to submit an editorial for publication in America Magazine. The editorial, which focuses on how America remains the land of opportunity despite the many challenges that we have faced throughout our history, was published online last Friday and will appear in print in the coming weeks.
In the article, Archbishop shares his July 4th sentiments and says, “I urge everyone to open their hearts to the needs of people today—to see the opportunities in front of us, to accompany those in difficult situations and to stand in solidarity with those fighting for social justice. And remember the words of the Old Testament: “You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God” (Lv 19:34).”
