On Saturday, July 25, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church, in collaboration with other offices at the USCCB and joined by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFYCM), will convene a yearlong intercultural process with young adults and ministry leaders. This initiative, entitled Journeying Together, is intended to examine the Church’s engagement with young people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and to mobilize the faithful on issues and concerns related to culture and race in the United States. COVID-19 has contributed to the permanent closure of 130 Catholic schools across 23 states.  Additionally, internal surveys show ten percent of Catholic schools are now uncertain if they can open their doors this fall.   That means as many as 500 or more Catholic schools could be in jeopardy.

Please join the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in asking Congress to include additional relief for Catholic schools in the next emergency relief package.

U.S. Bishops Grateful for Supreme Court Decision in Blaine Amendment Case

U.S. Bishops’ Religious Liberty and Catholic Education Chairmen Grateful for Supreme Court’s Decision in Blaine Amendment Case

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States issued its decision in the case of Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue, which challenged a decision by the Montana Supreme Court to invalidate a tax credit scholarship program because families benefiting include those who choose to send their children to religiously-affiliated schools, a violation of the Montana state constitution’s “Blaine Amendment” of 1889 against aid to religious schools. By vote of 5-4, the Court ruled in favor of the petitioners. Click here to read the full statement.
