SCOTUS Rules in Key Pennsylvania Religious Liberty Case

We are happy to share the following message from Michael Geer, President of the Pennsylvania Family Institute.

I am glad to bring you this breaking news – a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the case Fulton v. City of Philadelphia that restores the right of Catholic Social Services to provide foster care and adoption services that align with its religious doctrine and convictions.

In 2018, city officials banned this charity from placing children for foster care and adoption services because of its refusal to place children with same-sex couples.

Our Independence Law Center filed an amicus (friend of the court) brief to the Supreme Court in this case on behalf of 15 Pennsylvania State Senators, detailing the history of religious liberty in Pennsylvania and America, and how the actions of Philadelphia violated those principles. Support Legislation for School Choice

Please Urge Your Senator and Representative to Support Legislation for School Choice

We respectfully ask for your help once again in reaching out to your state senator and representative.

Budget discussions are beginning at the state Capitol in Harrisburg, which means it is a very critical time for getting funding for our Catholic schools across Pennsylvania. We’ve all seen the great job that our schools have done over the years, but especially during the pandemic.  They remained mostly open this year, while many public schools remained shuttered or only opened partially. Our schools continue to deal with financial challenges that are not faced by the public schools that benefit from tax dollars. Therefore….

Please reach out to your state senator and representative to ask them to support legislation that supports school choice and a meaningful increase in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC).
