Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez has published a remembrance today of the late Cardinal John O’Connor, former Archbishop of New York, in the National Catholic Register newspaper. Today marks what would have been the 106th birthday of Cardinal O’Connor, who died in 2000.
Archbishop Pérez fondly remembers him as a saintly hero and role model for Catholics in the United States. The late Cardinal was a Philadelphia priest, Catholic military chaplain, and Archbishop of New York “whose faith and courage shaped not only a local Church, but the moral voice of a nation,” Archbishop Pérez writes.
